Machu Picchu was a pre-Columbian, Inca style, estate-like city built around the 15th century in the middle of a tropical mountain forest at a height of 2,430 metres above sea-level. The city was built with polished dry-stone structures spread around the landscape with separate areas designated for agriculture, and living.
